Elaine Roesle's St. Nicholas Collection Snow Children Collectibles
Daughter Heather Shingledecker and artist Elaine Roesle create St. Nicholas Collection Santas and Snow Children Collectibles from start to finish in their small Ohio workshop.
Elaine Roesle, a self taught doll artist, began her career in 1972 making antique porcelain doll reproductions. Under the name "Dear Dolls", Elaine sold these creations at various art fairs in the East and Midwest. Casting, cleaning, firing and painting were just a start in the steps of mastering her trade to achieve the subtle but cherished quality of her product.
In 1978 Elaine created her first Father Christmas which soon led to her second line known as the St. Nicholas Collection. In 1985 the St. Nicholas Collection grew to the point that it became her main line. To keep "Dear Dolls" alive, Elaine uses them as accessories with some of the Santas in the St. Nicholas Collection.
Elaine's Snow Children line sprang to life in 1990. Along with her established Santa line, Elaine exhibited five Snow Children designs at shows in Washington D.C. and in Valley Forge, PA. They were so well received that the line has grown to over fifty pieces. Each year she retires a few pieces so that new creations can be join the line. The small edition sizes of each design have made Snow Children very collectible.
Elaine and her St. Nicholas Collection have appeared in many local newspaper articles as well as national Magazines such as Early American Life and Celebrate365. Elaine was commissioned by the United Federation of Doll Clubs to design and make a limited production Snow Children character for their July 2000 national convention in Chicago. She was also selected to do a limited production piece for a Pennsylvania doll club to commemorate their twenty-fifth anniversary.
Elaine is often called upon to use her talents to help with local and national fund raising organizations. She has designed and donated one-of-a-kind pieces for fund raising auctions such as the Flamingo Fling, an organization which raises funds for seeing-eye dogs in Tampa, FL.
