Ping Lau Dolls

Ping Lau was raised and educated in Singapore. She has had no formal art training but graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from the National University of Singapore. She returned to art - her true calling - after emigrating to the United States in 1989. Although she has been painting all her life and still considers herself primarily a painter (she has a large portfolio of mainly fantasy subjects in water-color and mixed-media), she began sculpting dolls in earnest when she realized how many in America shared her fascination and love of dolls.

Her characteristically large-sized, meticulously detailed and expressive dolls depicting children of all ethnic groups reflect her generous exposure to many different cultures through her life in Singapore and travels around the world. She also creates commissioned portrait dolls and teaches sculpting. Her dolls receive tremendous response and recognition whenever they are shown and are occasionally mistaken for real children.

Ping's dolls, paintings and other creations have been displayed at art galleries, art shows, and in distinguished manufacturers' collections.   Ping lives in the Washington DC metropolitan area and continues to strive to refine her skills as a doll artist.
